Byron Olson is a Providence, Rhode Island based cartoonist. Born in Providence, Byron draws inspiration from the city's culture and community. Initially, he studied at MassArt in Boston, then transferred to RISD in Providence, where he received his BFA in Illustration. He works as a freelance artist, while also running his web shop of original products: "Strange One Comics." Byron’s illustration often finds the intersection of spooky and cutesy, with influences ranging from Stephen King novels, to Fleischer cartoons. The work evokes a nostalgic, vintage feel, with modern sensibility. Underground and independent comics, punk rock, hip-hop, counter culture and the DIY print scene, fuel his passion to create.
Byron's professional experience:
Illustration/comics, graphic design/logo design, sign-painting/murals, teaching/workshops/lectures.
